Suggested as a song for children to sing and slow down at the end for QCA Unit 4 'Feel the Pulse' at KS1. The Chieftains are a Grammy-winning Irish folk music group founded in 1962 and this is their version of a classic Irish rebel music song that honours the memory of the women dedicated to Ireland, specifically the Irish nationalist movement.

Recommended listening to support the Somerset Music Coco Scheme of work as it illustrates the capacity of reworked traditional pieces to be very successful commercially.

Live performance example of Brazilian Coco to support Somerset Music Coco Scheme of Work.

The name "Coco" comes from the Brazilian word for head, "cabeça," because song lyrics are often improvised. Coco is often performed with a repetitive musical beat and call and response singing reminsiscent of Capoeira music. The music is commonly performed at traditional parties in the northeast, such as weekend street parties and Carnival.
